A Broken Nation Can Only Be Healed by Restoring a Culture of Life
Charlie Kirk’s assassination has left the nation reeling. Across the political spectrum, leaders are admitting what many of us have long known. America is deeply divided, wounded, and in the words of Utah Governor Spencer Cox, “broken.” The shock of such a violent, public killing is a grim reminder of how far our culture has drifted from respect for life and dignity.
The truth is that putting this country back together will be no small task. The fractures are deep. Political violence, anger on social media, and a climate where opponents are treated as enemies reveal how far we have fallen. Healing will not come quickly, and no political movement alone can solve it. But the path toward national restoration must begin where life begins, in the womb.
For decades, America has told itself a dangerous lie that some lives are expendable. We have written into law, and into the culture, the idea that the most vulnerable among us, unborn children, can be discarded. Once we declare that innocent life has no worth, we should not be surprised when that logic seeps into the way we treat one another outside the womb. Violence in the streets and violence in the political arena flow from the same poisoned source, a culture that does not value life.
If our nation is to find healing, it must begin with repentance and renewal. We must become a people who protect the unborn, honor the elderly, care for the weak, and defend the vulnerable. Only when we restore a culture of life can we begin to mend the brokenness we now see everywhere.
Charlie Kirk’s tragic death is a sobering reminder of how fragile our republic has become. But it can also serve as a turning point. America must decide whether to continue down the road of division and death or to turn back and rebuild on the foundation of life, truth, and human dignity.
The first step on that road is here in Missouri. Passing Amendment 3 will affirm that we are a people who value life in the womb and that we are ready to lead the way toward restoring a broken nation by restoring a culture of life.
