New Jersey’s Attack on Pregnancy Centers — Why Missouri Must Stand Firm

New Jersey’s Attorney General, Matthew Platkin, has launched a politically motivated fishing expedition against pro-life ministries. His office issued a sweeping subpoena against First Choice Women’s Resource Centers, demanding not only their internal records but also private communications with the national networks Heartbeat International and Care Net. These are the very ministries that provide women with baby supplies, medical care, counseling, and the message that every life matters.

The Thomas More Society is urging the U.S. Supreme Court to step in. They argue, rightly, that this is not about oversight but about intimidation. By prying into private communications, Platkin is threatening the First Amendment freedoms of speech, religion, and association. And this is not an isolated case. We have seen similar attacks in California, Illinois, and New York. The pattern is clear: tie up pregnancy centers with lawsuits, drain their resources, and silence their life-affirming work.

Here in Missouri, we know better. Pregnancy centers are lifelines for women and families, offering hope in crisis and help without cost. Their mission is rooted in compassion, not politics. If radical politicians can harass and silence these ministries in other states, Missouri is not immune.

That is why Amendment 3 is so critical. We need Amendment 3 to protect women, safeguard our pregnancy centers, and make Missouri the strongest pro-life state in the nation. Our opponents would love nothing more than to import New Jersey’s tactics here, but with Amendment 3 we can stop them in their tracks.

Missouri must remain a place where pregnancy centers thrive, where free speech and faith are protected, and where life is cherished.
