A Sobering Reminder of the Work Ahead
Gallup just released new numbers on abortion, and they are not easy to read for anyone who cares about protecting life. According to their poll, the gender gap on abortion has reached record highs. Sixty-one percent of women now identify as pro-choice, compared to forty-one percent of men. On the morality of abortion, fifty-seven percent of women call it acceptable, while only forty percent of men agree. When it comes to legality, more than half of women think abortion should be legal in all or most cases, compared to just forty-one percent of men.
We should not ignore these facts. They show us the state of our nation, and how deeply divided we are on the question of whether unborn children have the right to live. It is tempting to gloss over bad news or spin it into something more palatable, but if we are going to make ground in the abortion debate, we must first be honest with ourselves. The culture in America has drifted further away from the protection of the unborn, and this poll is evidence of that reality.
But this also makes clear why our mission here in Missouri is so critical. If we cannot hold the line in pro-life states, we will lose the national battle altogether. Amendment 3 next year represents a turning point. It is our opportunity not only to defend Missouri’s culture of life, but also to show the country that the tide can be turned back.
We cannot take this moment lightly. The poll is sobering, but it is also motivating. It reminds us that every yard sign, every conversation, every piece of literature matters. Now is the time to step up, because the other side is not slowing down.
